Common questions

How do I add another person to my household?

Settings → Invite a member → tap Generate invite code. You'll get a 6-digit code that's good for 24 hours. Share it however you like (Messages, WhatsApp, in person, etc.).

The other person opens Fairshare, taps I have an invite code on the welcome screen, signs in with Apple, and enters the code.

You'll need to be on the Fairshare+ plan to invite — see Membership below.

Why don't I see my partner's task completions on my phone?

Two checks:

  1. Both of you need to be signed in with Apple. Settings should say "Signed in as [your name]" in the Sync section.
  2. Both phones should be online. Pull down on the Today or Tasks tab to force a sync, or tap Sync now in Settings.

If you're still not seeing each other's edits, email — that's a bug, and I want to know about it.

Can I use Fairshare without signing in?

Yes, for one device. The free tier doesn't send anything to a server — your household, members, tasks, and history all live on your phone. You won't be able to invite someone else or sync to a second device, but everything else works.

If you uninstall the app while on the free tier, your data is gone — there's no server-side backup. Sign in with Apple before uninstalling if you want to keep your data.

How do I delete my data?

Settings → Delete account and data. If you're signed in, this also removes your data from Fairshare's server. The action is irreversible — your tasks, completions, and household are gone.

If you can't access the app for some reason, email with your account email and I'll delete the data manually.

What does "mental load" mean?

The work of running a home that doesn't fit on a checklist — noticing supplies are running low, remembering whose appointment is overdue, planning meals before Sunday slips away. Fairshare lets you mark a task as "mental load" so the Fairness screen can show you who's carrying that share of the work, separate from the visible chores.

It's based on the academic concept (sometimes called "cognitive labor" or "invisible labor" — researcher Allison Daminger's work is the cleanest introduction). The framing is honest, not competitive — the goal is to have the conversation, not to keep score.

Why doesn't Fairshare track minutes / time spent?

It used to. The numbers were too speculative — every household does "laundry" differently — and they pushed the framing toward score-keeping. We replaced minutes with cadences (eight kinds: daily, weekly, "by end of day," "when needed," seasonal, etc.) so the schedule matches the actual rhythm of the work.

Can I share Fairshare across iPhone and Android?

Currently iPhone only. An Android version is on the long list, but it's not v1.

Why didn't the reminder fire?

Notifications need permission. Settings → Notifications should say "Allowed." If it says "Denied," iOS Settings → Fairshare → Notifications controls it (Apple doesn't let apps re-prompt).

If permission is allowed and you still missed a reminder, try Reschedule now in the Notifications card — that re-queues all upcoming reminders and reports how many got scheduled. If 0, something's off and an email helps me debug.

Membership

Most of Fairshare is free forever. Membership unlocks the things that matter when more than one person is involved:

We charge for membership through the App Store as an in-app purchase. You can manage or cancel from iOS Settings → [Your name] → Subscriptions.

Membership is per-household, not per-person. If you're paying, the people you invite don't pay anything — they ride on your subscription.

(Note: as of v1.0, the paywall toggle is shown but in-app purchase isn't wired yet. The next release will have it.)

Found a bug?

Email katrinmalfent@gmail.com with:

  1. What you were trying to do
  2. What happened instead
  3. iOS version + iPhone model (Settings → General → About)
  4. Fairshare version (the bottom of the Settings tab)
  5. (Bonus) a screenshot

Repro steps help a lot. "It crashed when I tapped Done" is harder to fix than "I had three tasks, marked the second one done, then the app hung for ~5 seconds and the Fairness chart was empty."

Privacy

See the privacy policy. Short version: nothing leaves your phone unless you sign in. No analytics, no ad SDKs, no tracking, no profiling.
