Fairshare

Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 28, 2026

Fairshare is built around a simple idea: most of the work of running a home is invisible, and visibility helps people share it more fairly. That principle extends to how we handle your data — we collect as little as possible, we tell you exactly what we have, and you can delete it from inside the app at any time.

If you have questions, email katrinmalfent@gmail.com.

What Fairshare collects

When you use the app without signing in

If you never sign in (the free tier), nothing leaves your device. Your household, members, tasks, and completion history are stored only in the app's local storage on your phone. We have no copy of any of it. Deleting the app erases this data.

When you sign in with Apple

Fairshare lets you "Sign in with Apple" so you can sync your household across devices and invite other people to join you. When you sign in, we receive and store on our server:

When you sync, your tasks, household members, and completion history are also stored on our server so other devices in the household can see them. This is the data that makes "shared household" work.

Push notifications

If you allow notifications and you're signed in, the app registers a push token with Apple's notification service. We store the token only so we can let other people in your household know when you've completed a task. We delete the token when you sign out or delete your account.

What we don't collect

How we use your data

We use it to make the app work — sync your household across your devices, deliver notifications to other members when you mark a task done, and keep you signed in. That's it.

We retain your data as long as your account exists. When you delete your account (see below), we erase the data within 30 days from primary databases. Backup snapshots are rotated within 90 days and that erases anything we still hold.

How to delete your data

You can delete everything at any time, from inside the app:

Settings → Delete account and data

If you're signed in, this calls our server to permanently remove:

It also wipes the app's local storage on your phone and cancels any scheduled local notifications. If the network call fails for any reason, we don't wipe local data — we surface the error and let you retry, so you're never left with orphaned server data and no record of it.

If you can't access the app, you can email katrinmalfent@gmail.com with your account email and we'll delete your data manually.

Where your data lives

Server data is hosted on infrastructure providers we use to run the backend (currently Fly.io). The data is stored in their European datacenter (Frankfurt). We use TLS in transit and encrypted-at-rest storage for the database.

We don't transfer your data outside the providers we list. If we add a new provider that stores or processes your data, we'll update this policy and note the change above.

Children

Fairshare is rated for general audiences but isn't designed for or directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe we have, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this policy if we change how we handle your data — for example, if we add a payment provider, an analytics tool, or a new sync provider. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will also be communicated in-app the next time you open it.
